“Fears vs. No Fears: Conquer Your Worries and Live Life to the Fullest, on a Sailboat!!”

Sailing on a boat is an amazing experience filled with a mix of both excitement and fear. There is always a part of me that is going to wonder, are we going to hit that rock, is that wave too big, or even are we safe out here on the water? But at the same time I am thinking, man I would like to steer that boat, or can we heel over more, or can I stick my hand out and touch the water? It’s both thrilling and terrifying at the same time!

I remember when my family and I were sailing in the San Juan Islands last summer I asked if I could ride the dinghy while being pulled from the back as we were motoring through a pass! I also remember sailing on our first day and being able to just get up and ask my Dad to steer and then there I was, steering a SAILBOAT for the first time!! I remember the wind whipping through my hair, and the sound of the water rushing past the boat. However, there’s also a sense of peace that comes with gliding across the water, moving with the rhythm of the waves, and seeing the wildlife all around you. On our very last day we were making our way back to the harbor and we saw a group of dolphins, we also saw a lot of seals. The whole trip was an amazing balance of exploration and excitement with a ton of relaxation, that in the end outweighed the occasional fears that come up. I can’t wait to do it all again for longer this time, think of all the new experiences we will have on this amazing journey. I am excited to conquer my fears and sail into the unknown!
