Apply. Deny. What are people relatively new to sailing, new to boat ownership, or trying to get or reget insurance supposed to do? It’s nearly impossible; everywhere online are people commenting on the difficulties of obtaining insurance, or that it is too expensive.
Researching online led us to Gone with the Wynns, who provided an excellent idea of creating both a sailing resume and a boat resume.
Considering the relationship with an insurer just that- a bet that they’re taking on you, that they want to do everything they can to win. Help insurers out by letting them know how responsible you are (who you are), the experience and lessons you’ve learned (what you’ve done), and how safe your boat is. Include a couple of pictures of you / crew at the helm.
As soon as we created a sailing and boating resume and added to our insurance applications, we started receiving acceptance letters and offers. Boom! Thank you for the thoughtful advice, Wynns!
